“And he set the ten bases, five on the right side of the temple, and five on the left: and the sea he put on the right side of the temple over against the east southward.” (1 Kings 7:39)
Literal Sense: Five of the bases which were used to wash the sacrificial victims were placed on the right side of the temple and give on the left side of the temple. Furthermore, the basin which was used to wash the priests was placed on the right side of the temple.
Allegorical Sense: As the basin which ritually washed and purified the priests was placed on the right side of the temple, so it is that the waters of baptism which wash and purify the people of the New Covenant from their sins poured forth from the right side of the true Temple, the body of Jesus (John 19:34).
Moral Sense: If we have been washed and purified with the precious blood and water which poured forth from the side of Christ, we should be zealous to guard the purity which was purchased at such a high price.
Anagogical Sense: If we have been washed and purified by the right side of the Son of God, how great of an assurance we can have that if we are faithful to Him we will stand with Him on His right side on the Day of Judgment (Matthew 25:33).
